Previous 2014 Sochi Winter Paralympics Coverage
The US got a couple more medals on Monday with two bronzes in the women’s Super-G. Ice sledge hockey was off while curling went 0-2 against two of the best teams in the field.
Wheelchair Curling
The US wheelchair curling team went 0-2 on Monday with a loss to 7-2 loss to Canada where Canada scored the last four points after the US had cut it to 3-2 after four ends. They lost to Russia 6-5 after falling behind 5-1 and trying to rally late. The US is now 1-4 but has played three of the top four teams in the tournament. Time is running out to make a run but it probably is still possible if they win out. The US takes on 0-4 Finland on Tuesday in a must win.

Alpine Skiing – Men’s Super-G
In the women’s super-g sitting race on Monday two US women (Alana Nichols and Stephani Victor) took DNFs while Laurie Stephens took bronze after finishing 2.98 seconds behind the leader. The US matched the bronze medal result in the standing race with Sephanie Jallen grabbing that one. She edged out teammate Allison Jones who was fourth and about a half second back. Melanie Schwartz finished ninth. In the visually impaired race only one US athlete was in the field, Danelle Umstead, and she finished fourth, 3.32 seconds back.
Cross-Country – Men’s 20km Classic
In the men’s 20km classic visually impaired race the US had two competitors. Jacob Adicoff came in sixth six minute behind the winner and about two minutes behind the bronze medalist. Kevin Burton was 10th about 15 minutes off the winner’s pace. In the standing race John Oman was in 18th for the US after finishing 26 minutes behind the winner in 1:17:04.1
