John Isner Into Third Round at BNP Paribas Open

#12 John Isner advanced in straight sets over Nikolay Davydenko as the US had a much stronger day at the BNP Paribas Open. In addition to Isner’s singles win they also had victories in women’s singles and men’s doubles.

Women’s Singles

The only match featuring Americans on Sunday was a matchup between two of them as Lauren Davis and Varvara Lepchenko met in the third round. Davis handled Lepchenko easily 6-3, 6-2 as her fantastic run continues in Indian Wells. Davis is now into the round of 16 and will actually be the higher ranked player when she takes on Casey Dellacqua on Wednesday.

Between Davis and #17 Sloane Stephens, who takes on #11 Ana Ivanovic in the third round on Monday, the US has a real chance at two quarterfinalists.

Men’s Singles

#12 John Isner kept the Americans alive in the men’s singles draw when he defeated Nikolay Davydenko 7-6 (5), 6-3 in the second round on Sunday. Isner got a break as he won’t have to take on a seeded player in the third round but instead will face Yen-hshn Lu on Tuesday.

John Isner/Sam Querrey got a solid win over Jeremy Chardy/Gilles Simon to open up their doubles tournament 7-5, 6-2. The Americans will turn around and play again against #8 Lukasz Kubot/Robert Lindstedt on Monday.

Broadcasting Information:

Tennis Channel will be broadcasting the tournament from 2 PM – 2 AM ET while ESPN3.com has streams of the play at three stadiums that will include the Sloane Stephens match.
